NBA: Los Angeles Lakers Win the NBA Championship!

This past October, the Los Angeles Lakers won their 17th championship in history, tying the Boston Celtics with the most championships. They won against the Miami Heat in their sixth game, 4-2, while being inside the NBA bubble. The final’s MVP was LeBron James, winning his fourth NBA Championship as MVP. LeBron James is the first basketball player to win four finals as MVP with three different teams. LeBron and Anthony Davis were the League's best duo this season, and would like their back-to-back titles next year. Lebron also tied Michael Jordan with four finals as MVP and he is still searching for more.

After the Lakers won the Western Conference finals against the Denver Nuggets, Lebron James gave out an inspirational quote during the press conference, "Job’s not done!" which he got from his dear friend, Kobe Bryant. LeBron finished the finals averaging 29.8 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 8.5 assists, meaning that he was averaging a double-double per game. The Lakers won a championship after ten years with the legendary Kobe Bryant. The Lakers dedicated this championship to Bryant and his daughter Gigi after their tragic passing on January 26, 2020. Bryant was an inspiration on and off the court, and was one of LeBron’s best friends and brought five championships of the seventeen they have.

The NBA teams had a great drawback because there was no home-court advantage because of the Covid-19 crisis. The NBA was placed in a bubble which was a hotel in Orlando where every NBA team stayed and made a Covid-19 free environment so the league could continue. It had strict rules like, no crowd playing without fans and unable to see their families for two months. This greatly affected the NBA players given the fact that they provide support to the teams and rely on them to cheer them on during the game. The fans were put on big screens around the court so they could feel like it was a normal game. After the games, the players would be sent to their rooms and were not allowed to leave in order to minimize any risk of someone contracting the virus. The players were also tested every four days to avoid any outbreaks of Covid-19 so they could finish the season.

This championship will be a once-in-a-lifetime game, one that took part inside a bubble in the middle of a global pandemic. The Lakers are still looking for their back-to-back titles and having the record for most wins in franchise history, if they manage to win next year. They will come better and stronger. Will Lebron James win his fifth championship at the age of thirty-five? Can Anthony Davis help him win back to back titles for his fifth ring? Who knows? The Lakers are the undisputed champions of 2020 and they crowned the NBA bubble.
