Elf is a Christmas movie from 2003 and indeed a fantastic tale. The movie first takes place in the North Pole where we meet Buddy, an elf who doesn't exactly look like an elf. He finds out that he is, in fact, human and goes off to New york to find his birth father. While in the Big Apple, Buddy goes on adventures that include things like finding the “world's best coffee.”
Buddy finds Walter Hobbs, his supposed birth father, and gets to know him, his wife, and their son. As he gets to know them, he also forms a bond with Jovie, a worker at Gimbels; the two eventually fall in love despite Buddy’s goofy, childlike naivety. Walter eventually takes a DNA test and finds out that he is, in fact, Buddy’s true father. He and Buddy have a huge argument. Buddy runs away and sees Santa (the real one). His sleigh is no longer working because there is no more Christmas spirit. Luckily, Christmas spirit can happen through singing, and viewers enjoy a wonderful montage of every character singing enough for the sleigh to get moving and save Christmas! It’s a funny, sweet movie that I enjoy during this season.
My Rating: 9/10
