Last week on October 10, journalist Edwin Andino was killed with his father in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. Andino was 23 years old and worked for La Tribuna TV (LTV). His father was 48.

On October 15, the National Police captured a suspect in the case. They have not shared the person's identity.

Between 2001 and 2022, at least 95 people involved in media, including journalists, have been killed in Honduras. Of these cases, 90% have gone unpunished, and Peace Brigades International reports that violent crimes against journalists have been increasing in number since 2014.

According to Reporters Without Borders, at least one journalistPablo Isabel Hernández Riverahas been murdered because of their work in 2022.

We at the Eagle Chronicles respect the freedom of the press and hope that perpetrators of violence against journalists would receive justice. As a platform for student journalists, we also deeply believe in the right to freedom of speech.

We stand with the victims of efforts to limit speech as well as their families and anyone else affected by the censorship of those who are brave enough to speak out and articulate their opinions. It is with great sadness that we mourn lives that have been lost, but it's with great courage that we join the fight against censorship and ask you to do the same.

Our October edition is published in honor of Edwin Andino. May his death encourage people to join the fight against the silencing of journalists.
